(Canton, N.Y.)- Dan Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Thomas Freeman (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) each had a goal and an assist leading SUNY Canton past Drexel University 3-2 Saturday afternoon in a hard-hitting ACHA Division I game in Canton.

The Roos, 18th in the ACHA Division I Poll, won their eighth straight contest to start the season a perfect 8-0. They swept the Dragons in the two-game series following a 7-2 win Friday night.

SUNY Canton outshot Drexel 47-28 in a physical but clean game as only six total penalties were called, two for the Roos and four for the Dragons. But there were hard hits throughout the game as both teams constantly went at each other and the boards in the Roos’ new arena were put to the test, especially in the third period as Drexel gunned for the tying goal. But the Roos held strong to keep their undefeated record intact and finished the final period generating a tremendous amount of scoring opportunities as they held a 12-8 advantage in shots over the final 20 minutes.

SUNY Canton went ahead 1-0 after the first period when Corey Frizell (Orleans, Ontario) scored the only tally of the opening stanza at the 12:17 mark off assists from Austin Root (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Dave Schneider (Indianapolis, Ind.).

Drexel went ahead 2-1 scoring two goals in the first 1:19 of the second period from Scott Wallace and Marco Gagliardi. That marked the first time the Roos have trailed in a game this season. But SUNY Canton responded and tied the game when Freeman scored from Cibelli and Chris Giczewski (Fountain Valley, Calif.) at the 4:11 mark of the second period and then Cibelli scored the game-winning goal with 8:35 left in the period from Freeman and Giczewski.

Morgan Barr (Almonte, Ontario) turned aside 26 of 28 shots to earn his second win of the weekend and fourth of the season.

Dan Pyne had an outstanding game for Drexel in goal finishing with 44 saves and he kept the Dragons in the game with several terrific stops in the final period.

The Roos will complete their seven-game home stand next weekend when they face Southern New Hampshire University on Friday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. and then host Franklin Pierce University in a two-game series on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m.
