(Syracuse, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team dropped a tight contest to Syracuse University as they lost to the Orange 2-1 in an ACHA Division I game at the Tennity Ice Skating Pavilion in Syracuse Saturday night.
The Roos, ranked 21st in the latest ACHA Division I Rankings, entered the game having won four out of their last five games and 10 of their last 12. They out shot Syracuse 39-31 but turned the puck over too many times in the neutral zone according to head coach Eric McCambly.
Both teams battled to a scoreless first period before the Orange gained a 1-0 lead 1:45 into the second period off a goal from Henry Spalding.
The Roos fought back and tied the game at the 3:47 mark of the third period when junior defenseman AJ Royce (Somers, Conn.) tallied his second goal of the year from Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.).
Cam Cunneyworth then notched the game-winning goal for Syracuse with 12 minutes left in the final stanza.
Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) turned aside 37 of 39 shots for the Roos (18-5). Andrew Collinghan had 30 saves for Syracuse.
