Roos drop first men's hoops game of season in Tournament of Heroes championship game at CSI

Staten Island, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team dropped its first contest of the 2015-16 season falling 90-66 to tournament host the College of Staten Island in the Tournament of Heroes championship game on Wednesday evening.

Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) led the Roos (9-1) with 18 points and six rebounds, while Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, NY) added 10 points. Kam Peterkin (Harlem, NY) added eight points and Walt Jeter (Fort Drum, NY), Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) and Kazre Cummings (Providence, RI) added six points apiece.

SUNY Canton jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead following a three-pointer from Jeter 2:13 into the contest. The Dolphins (8-2) outscored the Roos 50-29 the remainder of the half to take a 50-38 lead into intermission.

Matt Spencer (Gouverneur, NY) scored inside to open the second half but SUNY Canton would not get closer than 10 the remainder of the way as CSI earned the 90-66 victory. Prior to tonight's contest the Roos were one of 12 remaining unbeatens in NCAA Division III.

CSI shot 55 percent from the field in the contest, while hitting on 69 percent of their three-pointers (9-for-13). Meanwhile, SUNY Canton shot 40 percent on their field goal attempts and just 18 percent from long distance. The Dolphins held a 21-9 edge in points off turnovers, while the Roos had the upper hand in bench points, 29-18.

Will Fonseca led all players with 22 points, while Thomas Delahanty added 20 points and eight rebounds. Khari Rollock and Edin Bracic added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

For his performance during the tournament Pickett was named to the All-Tournament Team.
