(Abington, PA) The SUNY Canton baseball team dropped two close games today, game one 9-4 and game two 7-6 in extra innings, versus Penn-State Abington to close out their weekend road-trip.
Sophomore Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, N.Y.) continues to thrive offensively, as he went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of home runs. Freshman Chris Jones (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and freshmanJake Marko (Brampton, Ontario) went 1-for-2.
One the mound for the first game was sophomore Will McIntyre (Ottawa, Ontario), who pitched 5 1/3 innings with one strikeout while allowing nine hits and four walks. Closing the game out for the Roos was freshman Travis Legacy (Malone, N.Y.) who faced four batters in 2/3 of an inning, giving up 1 hit on the afternoon.
Game two showed great offensive and defensive efforts by Canton. The Nittany Lions scored an early run in the first inning, but the Roos held strong defensively for three innings until they equalized in the fourth. In the seventh inning Jordan Hunneyman held true to his current form, hitting a 3-run homer putting the Roos ahead 6-5. The Lions scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh pushing the game into extra innings. The game ended with a walk-off single by the Nittany Lions taking game two with a 7-6 decision. Junior Gerardo Torres (Stafford, Va.) went 2-for-4 with a home run. Sophomore Phil Tsiaras (Toronto, Ontario) also banged out two hits and six other players had a single for the Roos.
On the mound for the Roos was freshman Dylan Casselman (Brockville, Ontario), who pitched seven strong innings. Casselman tossed four strikeouts in the outing and gave up six runs on 12 hits. Hunneyman relieved Casselman in the eighth inning and gave up one run on two hits.
