Houghton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's soccer team had some strong play in net but the offense couldn't get going as the team fell 2-0 on the road to host Houghton College Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Kangaroos to 2-3-0, while the win improves the Highlanders to 4-0-1.

Houghton got on the board first in the 17th minute when John Carpenter scored off passes from Taylor Ross and Paul Seddon. Despite the Highlanders holding a 7-0 shots on goal advantage in the opening half SUNY Canton trailed just 1-0 at intermission thanks to six first half saves from Evan Drew (Elizabethtown, NY).

The second half would continue to be controlled by the Highlanders as the Roos managed only four total shots on the day, none of which challenged the opposing keeper. Nick Escalante (Whittier, CA) led SUNY Canton with two shots on the day.

Even though the Highlanders controlled the offensive side of the field the visitors were in the game throughout down just one goal. Houghton added a crucial insurance marker in the 84th minute when Mitch Beattie took a pass from Jesse Toth and beat Drew for the score.

Drew stopped nine shots in goal for the visitors. Jacob Dunnett was untested on the day playing all 90 minutes in the win for Houghton.

The SUNY Canton men's soccer team returns home when they host Keuka College Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
