Canton, NY – Joe Deveny (Stouffville, ON) and J.P. Langlois (Amos, QC) both scored their first collegiate goals but Buffalo State used a late comeback to earn a 5-4 overtime victory on Saturday evening in the Roos House.

The Roos (1-5-0) got on the board first at 8:56 of the opening period on Deveny's first career goal. Nick Lepone (Richmondhill, ON) had his initial shot at the near post saved but the rebound went right to Eric Witzel (Ottawa, ON) who played a quick pass across the face of goal to Deveny at the far post who buried it past the glove of Mike DeLaVergne for the early lead.

Five minutes later Josh Erickson (Woodbury, MN) made a big save on a breakaway to keep the 1-0 lead as the Roos took the one goal lead into the first intermission.

SUNY Canton extended its lead to 2-0 at 1:46 of the second as Langlois picked the puck up off a Bengal defensive miscue and buried his first collegiate goal top shelf over the glove. Ben Beasley (Burlington, ON) earned a helper on the play.

Buffalo State got one back 1:24 later when Taylor Pryce tallied his fourth goal in two nights, this one coming on the power play. The Roos responded with just more than five minutes to play in the middle period as Lepone lit the lamp for the fourth time of the season and second in two nights, also with the skater advantage.

Seemingly in control of the contest at 3-1 Buffalo State stormed back with two goals in the final 1:26 of the second stanza, including tying the game at 3-3 with just eight seconds left in the second.

Beasley gave the Roos the lead at 13:38 of the third when he used a burst of speed into the offensive third beating his defender. The sophomore made a beautiful deke and beat DeLaVergne over the pads.

At 17:32 of the period SUNY Canton went on the power play beginning play in their offensive zone. Buffalo State won the faceoff and Nick Schiro found Pryce who scored his second of the night, this one shorthanded to knot the game at 4-4. The teams would skate into overtime.

Kyle Matsumoto (Walnut, CA) had a shot on goal to open overtime that was saved by DeLaVergne. The Bengals won the ensuing faceoff and Scott Roy found Ryan Salkeld who buried the game-winner 43 seconds into the extra session.

Erickson made 27 saves in net for the Roos, while DeLaVergne turned aside 25 shots. SUNY Canton went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Buffalo State was just 1-for-7 with the skater advantage.

The men's hockey team returns to the ice on Friday when it visits SUNY Cortland at 7 p.m.
