(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women’s volleyball team cruised to their fourth straight win Friday night with a 3-0 sweep of Morrisville State College in Roos House.
The Roos improved to 11-2 overall and also kept their home unbeaten streak intact moving to 7-0 on their own court. SUNY Canton, tied for sixth in the latest USCAA Coaches Poll, has dropped just one set in those seven matches.
The Roos jumped out to fast starts in all three sets against the Mustangs (2-6). In the opening set the Roos streaked to a 7-0 start thanks to terrific serving from freshman Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, Ontario) and strong play at the net from freshman Morgan Bills (Walworth, N.Y.). The Roos went on to win 25-12 for a 1-0 lead. In the second set SUNY Canton went ahead 14-8 and then reeled off an 11-4 run to win 25-12 and take a 2-0 advantage. In the third and final set the Roos opened on a 10-1 run, pushed the lead to 17-5 and eventually closed out the match with a 25-11 win.
Sophomore Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, Ontario) nailed 10 kills to pace the Roos. Bills finished with nine kills. Carroll ended the night with five digs and three service aces. Sophomore Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, N.Y.), who earned Setter of the Week honors from the USCAA for the second time this year, distributed 19 assists. Senior Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) added five aces and four kills and senior Danielle Swanston (Burke, N.Y.) contributed eight digs and four kills.
Tiffany Jones-Maxwell had four kills for the Mustangs and Lindsay Easterly had nine assists.
The Roos and Mustangs play again on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Morrisville also plays Oswego State at 12:30 and the Roos will take on the Lakers at 2 p.m.
