Canton, NY – Grace Lyon (Brasher Falls, NY) netted her second goal of the season and Rebecca DiNardo had a monster game in goal making 40 saves as the women's hockey team defeated visiting Stevenson University 2-0 on Friday evening in the Roos House.

The win was the first career victory for newly appointed Head Coach Dave LaBaff.

Play started out slowly in the first period as both teams looked to feel out their opponents. DiNardo made 17 big first period saves to keep the game scoreless after one. The Roos tallied six shots on goal in the period, three of which came off the stick of Margret Troiano (Morristown, NY).

After neither team had many good chances in the second period the Roos had a golden opportunity near the end of the stanza as Troiano made a nice play to collect a loose puck in the neutral zone. Her and teammate Tia Mitchell (Akwesasne, NY) skated toward the blue line in a 2-on-1.

Troiano flipped a quick pass to Mitchell on the right side who deked and fired a shot toward the glove side of Mustang net minder Sarah Modelewski but she was able to make the save. The teams were tied at 0-0 after two.

The Roos broke the tie 7:37 into the final period as Lyon intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and skate in alone beating Modelewski over the blocker to make it 1-0.

With 1:00 minute remaining in the game trailing by a goal the Mustangs pulled Modelewski in favor of the extra skater. Twenty-eight seconds later the Roos made them pay as Lindsey Hall (Ancaster, ON) found Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX) near the defensive blue line who slotted a shot in the center of the empty net for the 2-0 final.

DiNardo was a fortress in goal all night stopping 40 shots on the evening, while Modelewski made 15 saves for Stevenson. The two teams will have a rematch on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Roos House.
