(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men’s ice hockey team thoroughly dominated Oswego State 14-2 to capture the Terry Martin / Alumni Classic Saturday in Canton.

The 14th-ranked Roos won the championship, named in honor of longtime hockey coach Terry Martin, for the second time in the tournament’s four-year history behind the play of senior forward Darren Camp (Canton, N.Y.) who was named the Most Valuable Player. Camp had one goal in Friday night’s 5-2 win over John Carroll University and had one goal and two assists in the championship game on Saturday.

SUNY Canton led 3-1 after the first period, 7-1 after the second, and tacked on seven goals in the final period to secure the overwhelming win. The Roos outshot the Lakers 62-11, scored four power play goals and had one short-handed goal in another impressive offensive outing.

The Roos held Oswego to just 11 shots on goal and freshman Morgan Barr (Almonte, Ontario) earned his second win in as many games with nine saves.

Freshman J.R. Lafferty (Williamstown, N.J.) added two goals and four assists in Saturday’s win. Sophomore Eric Richard (St-Hubert, Quebec) had three goals and one assist. Freshman Thomas Freeman (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) contributed two goals and one assist and senior Rob Liggio (Canton, N.Y.) had one goal and two assists.

Chris Covel and Chris Timmons scored for Oswego and Aaron Frohm and Sal Annunziata combined for 48 saves.

Freeman, Richard, Barr, and freshman Sean Gallagher (Sandwich, Mass.) along with Covell were chosen to the all-tournament team.
