(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men’s ice hockey team captured the Blizzard at Buffalo Tournament beating the host and 18th-ranked University of Buffalo 3-0 Saturday night at the Northtown Center at Amherst in Amherst, N.Y.

Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) turned aside all 21 shots he faced to post his first shutout of the season helping the Roos improve to 17-3. SUNY Canton, ranked 21st in the latest ACHA Division I rankings, wrapped up their first semester having won nine of their last 10 games.

There was no score through the first two periods and then Cory Bercume (Potsdam, N.Y.) netted what would be the game-winning goal at the 4:01 mark of the third period. It was Bercume’s third goal of the season and first game-winner of the year.

Adam Fedor (Orleans, Ontario) made it 2-0 when he scored his second goal of the tournament at the 13:43 mark and Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.) capped off the scoring with his sixth goal of the year at the 15:38 mark of the final period.

Darren Camp (Canton, N.Y.) and Dan Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) contributed two assists each. Camp finished the tournament with two goals and three assists and Cibelli had two goals and two assists.

Corey Frizell (Orleans, Ontario) and John Payne (Port Moody, B.C.) also had assists on Saturday.
