Roos basketball game comes up short at Fisher College

(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men’s basketball team dropped a close and dramatic 82-79 decision to Fisher College Wednesday night in Boston.

The Roos (8-5) had two great chances to extend the game in the final seconds of regulation. After the Falcons went ahead by three points with 30 seconds left following a layup from Dennis Norford, junior Ryan Lamica’s (Constable, N.Y.) attempted three missed the mark with four seconds left but the Roos got an offensive team rebound. Sophomore Scott Dixon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) launched a 3-pointer at the buzzer but his shot came up just short.

The score was tied 35-35 at halftime and the second half went back and forth as there were seven ties and seven lead changes over the final 20 minutes.

Junior Irving Cato (New York, N.Y.) continued his stellar play this season posting another double-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Sophomore Khalid Vaughn (New York, N.Y.) added 16 points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Lamica finished with 14 points, nine assists and three steals. Dixon had 12 points and five assists and Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 10 points.

Norford led the Falcons with 19 points and 14 rebounds and Chris Green knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points.

The Roos will continue their road trip heading to Maine this weekend for games at the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Jan. 21 and the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Jan. 22.
