(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton baseball team split with Vermont Technical College on Saturday as the Roos blasted the Green Knights 10-0 in five innings in the first game and lost the nightcap 4-2 in 13 innings.
In the opener, the Roos (2-4 Sunrise Conference, 2-25) stretched a 1-0 lead to a 5-0 margin with a four-run third inning and then shortened the game to five innings with five runs in the fifth inning.
Evan Hammond (Ottawa, Ontario) had three of the Roos’ 11 hits in the game as the sophomore ripped a triple and two singles. Hammond also scored once and drove in another run.
Thomas Fearon (Ajax, Ontario) added two doubles, two runs and an RBI. Tom Darling (Oswego, N.Y.) had two singles, a run and an RBI and Josh Soffer (Ottawa, Ontario) won his second game of the year with a two-hit, five-strikeout performance.
In the nightcap Dillon James (Ottawa, Ontario) laced a pair of singles to lead the Roos. Darling added a double, a single and a run, and Fearon contributed a single and a run.
The two teams square off again on Sunday in another doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. in Canton.
