Patchogue, NY – The SUNY Canton baseball team split a pair of games against Briarcliffe College on Friday winning the opener 4-3 before dropping a 9-3 decision in the second game.

The hosts jumped out to a quick start with two runs in the bottom of the first but the Roos responded with three of their own in the top of second. Keenan Shannon (Ballston Spa, NY) drew a one-out walk and advance to second on a stolen base. Kyle Sacks (Clifton Park, NY) singled to left moving Shannon to third. Phil Tsiaras (Toronto, ON) brought across the first Roo run of the game on a fielder's choice. Chris Jones (Deerfield Beach, FL) followed with a single to plate Matt Hall (Palmyra, NY) for the second run of the inning and he later crossed the plate after Austin Hernandez (Loxahatchee, FL) doubled to left center.

SUNY Canton added a crucial insurance run in the top of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. Jones singled home Shannon for his second RBI of the game. That extra run proved huge as Briarcliffe added one of its own across the plate in the bottom half of the inning.

Zach Lawrence (West Palm Beach, FL) threw seven innings giving up just one earned run and struck out two batters in his third win of the season.

In game two the Briarcliffe bats got hot as SUNY Canton struggled to get the offense going. In the top of the 7th Kevin Hill (Deerfield Beach, FL) smacked a 2 RBI double but it wasn't enough as the Roos came up short, 9-3.
