Canton, NY – Wilson Matos finished the day 4-for-8 with a home run but the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped an Empire 8 doubleheader to visiting Ithaca College by scores of 9-2 and 11-5.
The wins improve the Bombers to 15-8 overall and 7-3 in conference play, while the Roos drop to 5-18 and 1-8.
Game 1
Ithaca scored four runs in the first inning and added three runs in the fourth to earn a 9-2 victory in the opener. After facing an early 4-0 deficit Canton scored on run each in the first and second innings on a Wilson Matos RBI ground out and Trevor Keleher scored on a wild pitch. However, a big fourth inning extended the Bomber lead as they earned the victory.
Travis Schindler, Christian Nazario-Cruz, Matos and Keleher finished with one hit each for the Roos. Matt Hall took the loss on the mound giving up 12 hits and nine earned runs over seven innings with four strike outs.
Game 2
The Bombers scored six runs in the fifth inning to turn a 4-1 Canton lead into a 7-4 Ithaca advantage. Wilson Matos led SUNY Canton going 3-for-5 with home run and drove in two runs. Christian Nazario-Cruz also finished with a pair of hits but eight errors proved costly for the hosts.
Austin Lamay drew his first loss of the season giving up six runs, only two of which were earned. Nicolas Demarais threw four innings surrendering four runs in the ninth, all unearned.
The baseball team is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Ithaca College for an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
