(Clermont, Fla.)- Senior Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) blasted a home run and added a double and two runs as the SUNY Canton softball team lost to Capital University 17-5 Thursday morning at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.

Lottie ripped her 14th career home run with a two-out, solo shot to left-centerfield in the top of the first inning, staking the Roos to a 1-0 lead.

The Crusaders rallied with four runs in the bottom of the second inning to pull ahead 4-1. The Roos answered with two runs in the top of the third. Junior Nicole Mulieri (Afton, N.Y.) drew a walk and then advanced to third when Lottie doubled down the right field line. Junior Andrea Rogers (Munnsville, N.Y.) then stroked a single up the middle that brought Mulieri and Lottie home.

Capital came back with four more runs in the bottom half of the inning, but SUNY Canton kept battling and posted two runs in the top of the fourth to trim the Crusaders lead to an 8-5 advantage. Sophomore Hallie Fenti (Hornell, N.Y.) got things going in the fourth with a single to left field. Freshman Kristyn Reynolds (Malone, N.Y.) walked and Mulieri singled through the ride side to load the bases. Senior Tina DeLuca (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) stepped to the plate and laced a single to right center that plated Fenti and Reynolds. Capital put the game away in the bottom of the fourth with a strong nine-run performance.

Lottie and Rogers each finished 2-for-3, and DeLuca and freshman Ashley Merritt (Watertown, N.Y.) combined on the mound.

The Roos wrap up their spring training schedule with a pair of games on Friday against RIT at 9 a.m. and Ferrum College at 11 a.m.
