Canton, NY – Visiting Stonehill College used five goals in the second period en route to a 6-2 win against the SUNY Canton men's hockey team Wednesday evening at the Roos House. The win improves the Skyhawks to 3-2-0, while the loss drops the Kangaroos to 1-5-1.

The Roos and Skyhawks played to a scoreless opening period as Stonehill held a 14-6 shots on goal edge. SUNY Canton committed one penalty but the Roo penalty kill unit was up to the task, as they didn't allow a single shot on net during the Stonehill skater advantage. Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) was a fortress between the pipes in the opening period turning aside 14 shots and making a number of point-blank saves on one-timers.

The second period was a one-sided affair as Stonehill held a 19-11 shots on goal edge and 5-0 advantage on the scoreboard. The Skyhawks got the scoring started at the 7:54 mark when Travis Army fed Bryan Rooney for his third goal of the season. Three minutes later Rooney was on the other end as he set Kevin Aufiero up for his first marker of the year.

Sixty-six seconds later the Skyhawks opened up a three-goal advantage when Bill Carey assisted a Richard Harris goal. With five minutes remaining in the second period Carey added a power play goal of his own as Brendan Greene and Richard Harris earned assists on the play. Harris added his third point of the game with just nine seconds left in the frame off passes from Greene and Balsamo.

Stonehill continued to control momentum early in the third and Thomas DePoalo added his first goal of the season to make it 6-0 at the 8:07 mark. Cory Giczewski (Fountain Valley, CA) got the Roos on the scoreboard 47 seconds later as Jake Ranahan (Grapevine, TX) and Austin Root (Manhattan Beach, CA) earned assists on the play. SUNY Canton's Kristian Leach (Indianapolis, IN) fired a shot on goal from just inside the right faceoff circle that was initially saved but Vance Bridgman (North Pole, AK) was in the right spot as he put home a rebound goal at 12:19 of the third period to get the Roos within four on the power play. SUNY Canton had some other quality chances but was unable to get any closer than four.

Puig had a strong night in net keeping the Roos in the game on multiple occasions with impressive saves. He turned aside a career-high 41 shots for SUNY Canton making no fewer than 13 saves in any period. Chris Tasiopoulos stopped 24 shots in the win for the Skyhawks.

The men's hockey team is back in action Friday when it travels to take on SUNY Potsdam beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Roos are back at home Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. when they host the Bears.
