Roo men's soccer improves to .500 after blanking Vermont Tech

Randolph Center, VT – The SUNY Canton men's soccer team earned its second shutout in as many days defeating host Vermont Tech, 5-0, Saturday afternoon. With the win the Kangaroos improve to .500 at 5-5 overall, while the loss drops the Knights to 3-6.

SUNY Canton set the tone early just 1:48 into the contest when Tyler Gallagher (Potsdam, NY) fed Elhadji Gueye (New York, NY) for his second goal of the season. The Roos struck again in the 27th minute when Hunter Mowery (Elizabethtown, NY) assisted Jose Menendez (Maracay, Venezuela) on his second marker of the year. The visitors outshot the hosts 14-4 in the opening 45 minutes taking a 2-0 lead into intermission.

The Roos continued to keep the foot on the gas pedal in the second half as Devin Gruneisen (Potsdam, NY) recorded his first collegiate goal in the 57th minute on Mowery's team-leading sixth assist of the season. Prince Adjei (Bronx, NY) and Gallagher added unassisted insurance markers in the 65th and 71st minutes for the 5-0 final.

Evan Drew (Elizabethtown, NY) earned his fourth win of the season stopping two shots in the first half for SUNY Canton. Tyler Savage replaced him for the final 45 minutes making two saves. Darren Claverley turned aside eight shots for Vermont Tech.

The SUNY Canton men's soccer team is off until Sunday, Oct. 6th when they host SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry beginning at 3:00 p.m. The women's soccer team hosts the Mighty Oaks that same day at 1:00 p.m. in a game to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
