Lakeland, FL – The SUNY Canton baseball team split a pair of games on Friday defeating Fitchburg State College, 5-2, before dropping a 8-7 decision in 10 innings to Medaille College.

Game One

Fitchburg State got one run each in the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead. The Roos responded with one run each in the fourth and sixth innings. SUNY Canton used a bit of two out magic to score in the fourth. Kevin Hill (Deerfield Beach, FL) reached on a base hit with two down, followed by a free pass to Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, NY). Braden Giffin (Lake Worth, FL) came up in the clutch singling home Hill.

SUNY Canton continued its impressive two out production in the sixth as Hunneyman drove a ball into the gap for a double. Giffin followed suit plating Hunneyman on an RBI double of his own to knot the game at 2-2.

After both teams went scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings it was the Roos who took the lead in the top of the ninth. Jesse Barton (Belle Glade, FL) led off with a single and Phil Tsiaras (Toronto, ON) showed patience drawing a walk. After a strikeout Kevin Icaza (Bronx, NY) reached on an error by the Fitchburg shortstop as Barton scored all the way from second. Hill drew a walk to load the bases with two outs for Hunneyman. Once again Hunneyman came up with a big two-out hit lacing a 2 RBI double to score Icaza and Tsiaras.

Despite a runner advancing to third Alex LaFountain (Keesville, NY) was able to close the door in the close. John Mancini (Scotia, NY) pitched seven innings in relief to earn the win.
