Patchogue, NY – The SUNY Canton baseball team split a pair of one run games on Saturday as the Roos defeated host St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 4-3 before dropping the second game 2-1 in 10 innings.

Game One

Strong two out hitting from Jesse Barton (Belle Glade, NY) helped lead SUNY Canton to a 4-3 victory in the opener of the two game set against the Bears.

The hosts use a leadoff double in the bottom of the first followed by an RBI single to take an early 1-0 lead. SUNY Canton would add one run each in the top half of the fourth and fifth innings.

Kevin Hill (Deerfield Beach, FL) roped a one out single to right field in the fourth before Braden Giffin (Lake Worth, FL) brought him home with a single up the middle. Greg Dobies (Schenectady, NY) drew a free pass with one down in the fifth and advanced to second on a fielder's choice. Barton came up with a clutch two out single to bring Dobies across the plate making it 2-1.

The Roos came up with some big time insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Dobies hit a one out base hit to center. With two down Barton laced a double deep in the gap to left center scoring Dobies all the way from first. Austin Hernandez (Loxahatchee, FL) continued the two out production with a single up the middle plating Barton giving SUNY Canton a three run cushion heading to the final half inning.

SUNY Canton would need both insurance runs as St. Joseph's used a 2 RBI single from Francis Rapp but

Bratton threw the complete game on the mound for the Roos surrendering just six hits and two earned runs while striking out three batters. With the win SUNY Canton snapped a four game win streak for the Bears.

Game Two

SUNY Canton got on the board first in the top of the fourth. Nick Belile hit a one out single to left and then moved over to third on a single by Braden Giffin. Keenan Shannon grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Belile.

The Bears responded in the bottom half of the fifth as runners advanced into scoring position at second and third with one out after a wild pitcher. After a ground out into a fielder's choice the score was tied at 1-1.

The Roos had a great opportunity to take the lead in the sixth inning when Shannon singled and advanced to third on a fielding error with just one out. However, a pair of ground outs including a diving stop in the hole at shortstop kept SUNY Canton off the scoreboard and the game knotted at one.

Both team's pitching staffs came up big in extra innings as the two squads threw consecutive scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth innings. St. Joseph's led off the bottom of the 10th with back-to-back singles and Thomas McKenna provided the game-winning RBI in walk-off fashion with a single to center.

Travis Bigelow (Ottawa, ON) got the start in game two yielding just three hits and a run over six innings. He struck out five batters and gave up five free passes. John Mancini (Scotia, NY) pitched the final three innings in relief, two of which were three up and three down efforts.
