Alfred, NY – With a 13-3 game two win against Alfred State College on Saturday the SUNY Canton baseball team set the single season program win record with 14 wins. The previous program record was 13 wins in 2013.

Travis Bigelow (Ottawa, ON) struck out seven batters and Austin Hernandez (Loxahatchee, FL) produced 3 RBIs as the Roos (14-14) erupted for 13 runs in a game two to salvage a split with the host Pioneers

Game 1

The Roos used a two out rally in the top of the second to get their first runs of the day. Kyle Sacks (Clifton Park, NY) singled to center with two down and Nick Belile (Norwood, NY) followed with a base hit to center moving Sacks over to third. Unfortunately the inning ended on a fielder's choice groundout. SUNY Canton would get multiple base runners on in the fourth after a walk to Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, NY) and Sacks single but could not plate the tying run.

SUNY Canton would have its final chance of a pitcher's duel as Sacks led off the top of the seventh with a single to center, his third hit of the game. Belile advanced Sacks into scoring position with one out on a sacrifice. Phil Tsiaras (Toronto, ON) followed with a ground out and after coming on to pinch hit Jesse Barton (Belle Glade, FL) flew out to right as Alfred State held on for the 1-0 game one win.

Derek Harkin (Ottawa, ON) had an impressive outing throwing a complete game of six innings giving up just four hits, one run and struck out three. Ryan Hedges earned his second win of the season for Alfred State yielding five hits, two walks and striking out eight batters.

Game 2

The nightcap saw SUNY Canton get out to a fast start as they posted five runs in the opening inning. Hunneyman reached on an error scoring Hernandez and Barton followed with a groundout to second to plate Sacks. Belile reached on another Pioneer miscue to bring Hunneyman across. Keenan Shannon (Ballston Spa, NY) drove in Belile on an RBI triple before Tsiaras used a single to score Shannon.

The Roos added four more runs in the fifth and seventh innings as they cruised to the 13-3 victory. Hernandez led all players with 3 RBIs in the contest, while Barton, Shannon and Kevin Icaza (Bronx, NY) all drove in two runs apiece.

Bigelow threw a complete game three hitter for SUNY Canton as he showed strong command striking out seven and walking just one. The freshman pitcher gave up just two earned runs on the day.

The Roos are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to the Watertown Fairgrounds to host Hamilton College at 7:00 p.m.
