Senior Samantha Rock scored in the 85th minute to snap a 1-1 tie and help the Saints remain unbeaten with a 2-1 win over Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in Connecticut.
"Today's game was certainly a battle for us," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "Wesleyan applied a lot of pressure and not only tested out team defense but was extremely effective in preventing dangerous opportunities for us. We fought hard today and I am very proud of the team's effort."
The Saints, now 4-0 on the season, took the lead early in the second half on sophomore Kaleigh White's sixth goal of the year. Classmate Katie Stames hit White with a centering pass in the middle of the box before White finished low to beat Wesleyan goalkeeper Meghan Hanan in the 55th minute.
The Cardinals answered with a goal from Madeline Keane in the 63rd minute, as she snuck a shot just under the crossbar and behind Saints' senior goalkeeper Kelsey West for the equalizer.
Rock and junior Lindsay Geier teamed up to put the Saints in front for good with just over five minutes to play in regulation as Geier fed Rock in the box before the senior put the ball into the lower left corner of the net past a diving Hanan for the game winner.
Hanan finished with nine saves for Wesleyan, while West, who was not tested often in the Saints first three games, made seven stops for the Saints.
St. Lawrence finished with a 17-10 edge in shots and a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.
The Saints will round out their New England road trip with a game at Western New England University in Springfield, Mass. on Sunday, Sept. 13 at noon.
