Roberts, Blaisdell win men's track events, Saints 4th at NYSCTC meet

Senior Jarell Roberts won one sprint and was second in another and junior A.J. Blaisdell won the discus as St. Lawrence University's men's outdoor track and field team finished fourth in the 2012 New York State Collegiate Track Conference Outdoor Championship at the University of Rochester on Saturday.

The Saints, who went into Saturday's second day of competition in fourth place, maintained that spot, finishing with 110 points. RPI won the 11-team event with 172.5 points with RIT second with 121 and Ithaca third with 116.5.

Roberts won the 100 with a 10.82 clocking and ran 22.03, finishing second to Richard Scott of Alfred, who ran 21.85. The Saint senior also helped the Saints finish second in the 4x100 relay, joining Adrian Wilson, Shawn Lillie and Jamal Samaroo to run 42.76, the Saints' best time of the year and just over a half second off the Saint record. Jake Fredericks also challenged a Saint record, finishing .10 off the mark with a fourth place finish in 15.09 in the 110 hurdles.

Blaisdell, Samaroo and Brian Kane had the top field event finishes for the Saints on Saturday. Blaisdell threw 40.78 meters to win the discus, while Samaroo had a 13.43 meter series in the triple jump to finish second in that event. Kane cleared 1.98 meters in the high jump to finish second with Mike Scott finishing seventh.Samaroo, who was second in the long jump on Friday, was named NYSCTC Rookie of the Year.

Seth Jackson turned in a strong kick to finish second in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:04.18 while Jack Knych who his heat of the 800 in 1:57.74 and finished fourth overall in the event.

Other scoring finishes on Saturday included a seven place in the Steeplechase by Zach Nelson, who ran 9:46.75, a seventh by James May in the 400 meters in 51.10 and a seventh by Fredericks in the 400 hurdles.
