Emily Livecchi scored her fourth goal of the game with 5:18 to go in regulation as the Rochester Institute of Technology edged St. Lawrence University 9-8 in a Liberty League women's lacrosse game in Rochester on Sunday.

RIT improves to 2-0 in league play and 4-4 overall on the season while the Saints are 2-6 overall and 0-2 in league play after coming up short despite two good efforts on opening weekend.

The game was a see-saw affair from the start with RIT grabbing a two-goal lead with back-to-back scores just 11 seconds apart with just over 12 minutes left in the first half. Sage Sarkes scored at 12:14, then won the draw following that goal and fed Corinna Mandell for a goal at 12:03 to give the Tigers a 5-3 lead.

Abigail Owens, who led the Saints with three goals, cut the RIT lead to 6-5 from Emma Garfield with just one second to go in the first half and the Saints tied the game on Kara Hurley's free position goal early in the second half. The Saints took a 8-7 lead on Ashley Norris' goal with 12:25 to go in the game, but RIT tied it with 8:18 left and won it on Livecchi's goal with 5:18 to play.

Julia Mitiguy, Michaela Maybee and Chloe Knapp contributed single goals for the Saints while Kiera Taussig had five ground balls and caused three turnovers. Addy Cunningham made 12 saves in goal for the Saints while Caitlin Conway had nine saves for RIT.

The game was as close statistically as it was on the scoreboard as RIT had a slight 24-22 edge in shots and a 28-24 advantage in ground balls. RIT won 12 of 18 draws and free position chances were even at 8-8.

The Saints are scheduled to host Clarkson at North Country Field on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
