Relay gives Saint men 1st win; Women sweep weekend at swim meets
Alex Root gave St. Lawrence University's 4x200 freestyle relay the lead on the third leg and Jason Dutra held it with a strong anchor leg in Sunday's home swim meet against St. Michael's College and the relay win gave the Saint men their first dual meet win of the season, 110-107. The Saint women had a somewhat less dramatic afternoon with a 130-87 win over the Purple Knights to complete a weekend dual meet sweep.
The team of Grant Reeder, Luke Peleggi, Root and Dutra swam 1:35.72 for a 1.18 second win over the Purple Knights to clinch the meet victory. That quartet, plus diver Billy Moran, accounted for the bulk of the Saint points in the meet. Moran was a double winner, taking the three meter board with 205.75 points and the one meter board with 196.85. Root won the 100 free in 1:54.85 and the 100 free in 53.00 while Dutra won the 200 IM in 2:08.90 and the 100 fly in 56.91. Reeder won the 100 back in 1:00.18 with Peleggi second.In the women's meet, the Saints finished one-two in six events and had two wins each from Sammi Moffitt, Alana Blackburn, Elizabeth Canne, Nikki Jewett and Olivia Rettstatt.
Moffitt won the 200 IM in 2:20.05 with Zinnia Smith second and the 100 back in 1:03.66 while Blackburn won the 50 free in 25.51 with Jane Moreau second and the 100 free in 57.05 with Kathryn Whittum second. Canne won the 200 free in 2:06.50 with Whittum again second and won the 100 breaststroke swimming exhibition with a time of 1:12.27 with Stacy Czaja second. Rettstatt won the 1650 free in 19:21.89 and came back to win the 500 free in 5:40.66 swimming exhibition. Jewett won both the one and three meter boards in diving with 152.15 points on the one meter board and 163.15 on the three meter board.
Casey Abribat won the 100 fly in 1:04.04 with Carly Berizzi second and led off both the 200 medley and 200 free relay teams. She was joined on the medley relay by Czaja, Moffitt and Blackburn, winning in 1:56.64 and on the exhibition relay team in the 200 free relay, joining Whittum, Moreau and Nicole Leinders with a 1:48.51 time.
The Saints will host Hartwick in their final dual meet of the season Jan. 26 at 1 p.m.
