POTSDAM, N.Y.—Oneonta State (7-3-1, 4-1 SUNYAC) scored a late first half goal and made it stand up in a 1-0 victory over the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (2-7-2, 0-2-2) on Friday afternoon at Maxcy Turf Field. Bears senior goalie Joseph Glackin finished with 10 saves for Potsdam.

The teams traded chances early in a wide open contest. Glackin made several big saves in the first 45 minutes. Sophomore forward Eduardo Figueroa lifted a shot just high of Oneonta's crossbar 15 minutes into the contest. Bears freshman forward Ben Firlit followed it up with hard direct kick on goal, but Red Dragon freshman goalie Colan Balkwell handled it. Oneonta broke through in the 38th minute as Glackin stopped a shot from freshman defender Alex Winiarski, but freshman midfielder Dylan Williams (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) buried the rebound. The Red Dragons held the 1-0 lead at the break.

Oneonta continued to press as the second half began. However, Glackin played aggressively, charging out of the goal to play balls and making four more saves in the final period. Potsdam created a few more chances late, but couldn't tie the score.

Balkwell made five saves to earn the shutout. The Red Dragons outshot the Bears 17-7 and finished with a 6-4 advantage on corners.

Potsdam looks to snap out of its eight-game winless streak tomorrow afternoon as the Bears host SUNY New Paltz at 1 p.m.
