St. Lawrence University senior Dan Ramsey completed a perfect career in Liberty League Track and Field Championship competition, but St. Lawrence University's men's outdoor track and field team had to settle for a second place finish as Rensselaer's depth prevailed on a cold and rainy afternoon at the Merrick Pinkard Track and Field complex on Saturday.

RPI won the meet with 275 points with the Saint second with 176, Union third with 89 and vassar fourth with 67.

Ramsey won the 5000 meters in 15:19.35 in his only race of the day on Saturday for his fourth career Liberty League outdoor title and his ninth career Liberty League track and field individual win including five indoor titles. He was also part of the winning Distance Medley Relay team indoors in February and won two Liberty League titles in cross country.

The Saints had a solid showing across the board with four other champions in addition to Ramsey, but RPI established a big early lead in the meet and added to it to win the team title.

Senior Chris Funch won the steeplechase in 9:38.54, senior Josh LeBlanc won the 1500 in 4:01.33, sophomore Andy Fisher won the 200 meters in 23.11 and freshman Tom Lehmann won the triple jump with a 12.29 series for the Saints' other individual championships. LeBlanc and Funch were joined by Michael Fox and Douglas Fox on the champion 4x800 relay team which ran 8:16.90.

Fisher added a second in the 100 and joined Adrian Wilson, Jon Mellinger and Lehmann on the second place 4x100 relay team, which ran 44.25. He also ran on the 4x400 relay with Mellinger, Lief Frymire and Jon Eng, finishing fourth in that event.

Ramsey led a Saint sweep of the top four places in the 5000 with juniors Seth Jackson and John Johnston running side-by-side with Ramsey until the finish. Jackson and Johnston each crossed the line in 15:19.41 for second and third while Sam Rakoc finished fourth in 15:29.79 to tive the Saints 28 points in that event. LeBlanc led a strong showing for the Saints in the 1500 with Steve Kiplagat finishing third and Andrew Goodwin fourth. The Saints also scored well in the triple jump as Lehmann's win was backed by a second from Brian Kane and a fourth by Jacob Fredericks.

Michael Fox was fourth and Wilson sixth in the 400, while Doug Fox was third, LeBlanc fourth, Kiplagat fifth and Funch sixth in the 800 meters. Justin Spalik scored in the 400 hurdles with a fourth place finish, and was sixth in both the pole vault and the shot.  Eng finished sixth in the steeplechase, and Fredericks was fifth in the 110 hurdles.

Sophomore A.J. Blaisdell had a busy day in the throws and scored in three of the four events he entered. He was third in the hammer with a 38.41 meter throw, fourth in the disc with a 34.33 meter throw and finished fifth in the shot put. He also competed in the javelin where Jon Cyphers was the lone Saint scorer with a sixth place finish.

Wilson finished fourth in the long jump while Taylor Macci was third in the pole vault. High jumpers Kane and Mike Scott tied for fourth, both clearing 1.79 meters.
