AKWESASNE -- The race fans were ready and the cars were lined up in the pit area, but late arriving showers and lingering drizzle forced the cancellation of Friday night's racing program Mohawk International Raceway (MIR).

Next Friday night, July 30, Chief's Tobacco Outlet presents a special 50-lap feature for the Frenchie's Chevrolet DIRTcar 358 Modifieds along with a full program of racing for the DIRTcar Sportsman, DIRTcar Pro Stocks and Bandits.

Race time is 7:45 p.m.

The month of August kicks off on Friday, August 6 as Bailey Ford presents Mohawk Madness, with the only appearance of the season for the open-wheeled Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS).

The ESS race offers special bonus money, with $2,500 going to the winner, and bonus points are on the line for both the ESS SUNY Canton New York mini-series and the Northwood 2 Canadian Sprint Car Series mini-series.

Joining the ESS sprint cars is a full show of racing for the Frenchie's Chevrolet DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman and Bandits. (The Pro Stocks will have the evening off for the Mohawk Race Parts Pro Stock tour event at Autodrome Granby.)

On Friday August 13, CKON 97.3 will present a full show of racing for the Frenchie's Chevrolet DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, DIRTcar Pro Stocks and Bandits.

The third weekend of August will see the first-ever appearance of the World of Outlaws Late Model series at MIR, with the two-day event to be the biggest stock car race ever held in the North Country and the biggest Late Model race in New York state.

Friday night, August 20, the World of Outlaws Late Models will have time trials and heat races, along with a full show of racing for the Frenchie's Chevrolet DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman and Bandits.

Saturday August 21 will start with the World of Outlaws Late Model last chance "B-Main" and then the 100-lap World of Outlaw Late Model feature event paying $20,000 to win out of a total purse of $120,000.

North Country fans will have two local stars to cheer for as former World of Outlaw Late Model champion Tim McCreadie of Watertown (currently second in Outlaw points) and World of Outlaw star Tim Fuller (currently eighth in points) of Edwards are both expected to be in action. Others will include defending Outlaw champion Josh Richards, Darrell Lanigan, Steven Francis, Clint Smith, Pennsylvanians Rick Eckerts and Chub Frank and the rest of the Outlaw stars.

With make-up events at Autodrome Drummond and Brewerton Speedway added to the Outlaws' August swing of Mohawk International Raceway and Rolling Wheels Raceway, many Late Model teams from Pennsylvania, Ontario and other surrounding areas are expected to be in competition.

World of Outlaw drivers Fuller, Richards, Smith and Jill George all tested at MIR in June and gave the completely revamped MIR facility race reviews.

Joining the World of Outlaw Late Models on Saturday, August 21 will be the Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock tour, with a 50-lap feature event. Defending DIRTcar Pro Stock champion Pete Stefanski and current Mohawk Race Parts Pro Stock tour point leader Joey Ladouceur head the list of invaders looking to challenge the MIR regulars.

The Bandits will also be on the Saturday night racing program.

Rounding out the month of August on Friday, August 27, Parkway Country Polaris will present a full show of racing for the Frenchie's Chevrolet DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, DIRTcar Pro Stocks and Bandits.

Mohawk International Raceway is located midway between between the Seaway International Bridge to Cornwall, Ont. and the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. From Route 37, turn south onto Frogtown Road.

Racing is held on Friday nights at 7:45 p.m. from May through September, featuring the Frenchie's Chevrolet DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, Sportsman and Pro Stocks, as well as the Bandit division.
