Saturday's ECAC Hockey matinee for the St. Lawrence University hockey team is one which hopefully will be soon forgotten as senior center Jeremy Langois scored a pair of goals, continuing Quinnipiac's impressive start to the ECAC season with a 6-2 thumping of the Saints at Appleton Arena.

The Saints, who will play non-league games at Northeastern and Boston University Friday and Saturday, are still looking for their first league win after two weekends of league play.

The Bobcats, who beat Clarkson 5-2 on Friday, improved to 7-3-1 overall and 4-0-0 in league play, building a 6-0 lead before the Saints, 5-3-2 and 0-2-2 in the ECAC, spoiled the shutout in the third period. Quinnipiac was dominating through the first 50 minutes, limiting the Saints to five shots on goal while building its big lead.

Quinnipiac came out flying and scored goals just 1:26 apart early in the first period to take command early. Freshman Alex Barron came off the bench with the Bobcats pressuring in the Saint end, walked down the slot and took a pass from Cory Hibbeler, burying his first collegiate goal over the shoulder of Saint goalie Matt Weninger, who did not get a lot of defensive help in the game. Barron's goal, which came exactly five minutes into play, was followed by the first of Langlois' pair as the senior was left all alone in front of Weninger and tucked the puck past him off a feed by Clay Harvey.

While the Saints were outshot 11-2 in the first period, they did prevent further scoring and stayed within reach until the Bobcats scored two in the later stages of the second period. The Saints were two men down for 1:50 of the period and while they killed off the first of the two penalties, Russell Goodman made it a 3-0 game when he scored on a rebound with five seconds to go in the second one at 14:48. Junior center Connor Jones, returning from an injury, then scored his first of the year, finishing off a rebound at 17:37.

Quinnipiac converted twice on the power play in the third period to put the game out of reach. Langlois finished off a pretty passing play with his second of the night on a five-on-three at 5:28 and with the Saints still down a man on a major penalty, defenseman Zack Currie scored his first of the year just 33 seconds later.

The Saints spoiled Eric Hartzell's shutout bid at 10:29 of the third when Greg Carey scored his eighth of the year just four seconds into a Saint power play as he blasted one home off the draw win by Kyle Flanagan, and Carey then set up Flanagan in front of a wide open net at 13:47 for Flanagan's eighth of the year to complete the scoring.

Hartzell finished with seven saves for the Bobcats while Weninger had 26 for the Saints.
