Puckhaber named Saints acting head football coach

Veteran assistant coach Dan Puckhaber has been appointed the acting head coach of St. Lawrence University's football program and the University will begin an immediate national search for a new head football coach.

Puckhaber, who joined the Saints staff as offensive line assistant coach and has been the program's offensive coordinator since 2011, steps in for Mark Raymond, who will join Williams College as its new head football coach in March.

"We wish Coach Raymond nothing but the best, and thank him very much for all his good service to the football program, the department and the University," said Saint athletic director Bob Durocher. "Our football program is in great shape, filled with outstanding young men. It is a priority of mine that we continue developing our student athletes, so they always represent themselves, and St. Lawrence University, at the highest level possible. My expectations are that they have a positive experience and will become Saints for life."

"We are confident that the level of recruiting we have enjoyed under coach Raymond will continue under the guidance of Dan and the rest of our staff," Durocher added.

Puckhaber guided the St. Lawrence offense to three consecutive winning seasons and a return to the NCAA tournament this past fall after the team won the Liberty League championship. The Saints broke nearly all of the program passing records over the last two seasons and averaged nearly 30 points per game. Under the guidance of Puckhaber, St. Lawrence quarterback Mike Lefflbine earned Liberty League co-Offensive Player of the Year honors in both 2014 and 2015.

The Saints were ranked first in the Liberty League in passing efficiency, passing yards and completion percentage as well as in nine different individual offensive categories.
