Princeton spoils Senior Night for Saints men's hockey with late comeback win

Seniors Ryan Lough and Nolan Gluchowski teamed up to give St. Lawrence a 3-2 lead 11 seconds into the third period on senior night on Saturday, but visiting Princeton went on to score two late in the frame to edge the Saints 4-3 in the team's final game in Appleton Arena this season.

Not unlike the first time St. Lawrence and Princeton met this month, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead before the Saints came back to tie and then eventually take the lead in the latter half of the game. However, Princeton scored two in the final eight minutes of the third period, including a power play goal by David Hallisey with 1:26 to play to steal another win out from under the Saints.

In addition to Lough, Michael Laidley and Ryan Garvey each tallied their second goals of the weekend, while Jake Stevens tacked on his third assist in two games.

Princeton carried a 2-0 lead into the first intermission off a power play goal from Josh Teves and an even-strength tally from Jackson Cressey, as the Tigers outshot St. Lawrence 15-3 through the first 20 minutes. Netminder Arthur Brey made a number a highlight reel saves in the opening frame and finished with 34 in the loss for the Saints.

St. Lawrence came storming back in the second and potted two goals in a span of 31 seconds to tie the game and electrify the Appleton Arena crowd.

Mike Marnell set up Laidley for a shot in the slot off a two-on-two rush into the Princeton zone and Laidley roofed it over the glove of Princeton's Ryan Ferland to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

Garvey tied the game at 2-2 off another rush into the Tigers zone, burying the rebound from a shot by Keenan Suthers at the far post.

Princeton was assessed a penalty late in the second period, setting up a St. Lawrence power play that carried over into the third.

After winning the ensuing draw and carrying into Tigers territory, Gluchowski ripped a shot from the point that was deflected by Lough in the slot to beat Ferland and give the Saints their first lead of the game, 3-2.

That lead lasted until the 11:56 mark when Ryan Kuffner tied the game for the Tigers.

With 2:53 to play in regulation and the game still tied at 3-3, Gluchowski was sent off for a controversial interference call setting up the final Princeton power play. Hallisey cashed in at the 18:32 marks to put the Tigers in front for good, 4-3.

Princeton finished 2-4 with the man advantage, while the Saints went 1-2 on the night.

Ferland made 19 saves in the win for Princeton, as the Tigers improve to 13-12-4 overall and 10-10-2 in ECAC Hockey contests.

The Saints, who drop to 7-25-2 and 3-18-2 on the year, will be the No. 12 seed to the ECAC Hockey playoffs and travel to take on fifth-seeded Dartmouth in a best-of-three first round series next weekend.
