POTSDAM, N.Y.—The State University of New York Athletic Conference has named SUNY Potsdam hockey player Sy Nutkevitch its men’s hockey Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 1.
Nutkevitch had a five-point weekend, helping the Bears to two ties at the Middlebury Holiday Classic. The Bears’ captain had an assist in a 4-4 tie against Southern Maine on Dec. 31. He then opened 2012 in style with a goal and three assists in a 4-4 draw with Skidmore on New Year’s Day.
The forward has six goals and 19 assists for 25 points in 12 games to top the Bears’ scoring ranks this season. Nutkevitch has established himself as an elite scorer and playmaker. He leads the nation in points-per-game (2.08) and assists-per-game (1.58).
Potsdam (5-5-2, 4-4-0 SUNYAC) returns home for two games this weekend. The Bears take on Skidmore College on Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. and then host No. 4 Castleton State at 4 p.m. on Jan. 7.
