POTSDAM, N.Y.—After falling behind early, the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (5-8-1, 3-3-1 NEWHL) rallied for an important 3-2 NEWHL win over Oswego State (6-4-2, 3-3-1) on Friday night. Junior forward Miranda Kolb (Watertown, N.Y./SUNY Cortland) had the game-winning goal an assist, while senior assistant captain Tatum Walber (Orchard Park, N.Y./Buffalo Regals) and freshman forward Ellie Cleary (Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Bison) also scored. Junior assistant captain Alexa Pfeiffer (Sylvania, Ohio/Little Caesar's) stopped 26 shots for her 17th career win.

Lakers sophomore forward Leah Czerwinski (Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons) opened the scoring 4:47 into the contest. Minutes later, Oswego then took consecutive penalties. While the Bears were able to generate scoring opportunities, the were not able to find the equalizer in the first period. Potsdam outshot the Lakers 19-7.

Just 2:56 into the second period, Oswego was called for a hooking penalty and Potsdam made the Lakers pay. 19 seconds later, Walber tied the contest with assists from Kolb and junior defenseman Delphine Léonard (Anjou, Quebec/Dawson College Prep). After killing a penalty of its own in the middle of the stanza, Potsdam's Cleary struck for an unassisted marker at 12:07 to give the Bears their first lead. The period ended with an 11-5 Lakers' advantage in shots, but the visitors trailed heading into the second intermission.

After surviving another penalty, and in the middle of killing their fifth of the game, junior defenseman Natalie Giglio (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Northwood School) tied the score with a shorthanded goal at 11:18 of the third period. However, Potsdam had the final say in the evenly contested final 20 minutes. Sophomore defenseman Keira Thacker (Oakville, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks) set up Kolb to close the scoring at 15:31. Oswego went on its final power play with 1:05 remaining and pulled freshman goalie Cassie Shokar (Surrey, British Columbia/Okanagan Hockey Academy) for an extra attacker. Pfeiffer needed only one more save to slam the door.

Shokar finished with 30 saves. Potsdam outshot Oswego 33-28 and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Lakers were 0-for-4 on the man advantage.

Pfeiffer needs just three more wins to tie the all-time program mark of 20 victories. The goaltender is 3-1 against Oswego in her career.

The Bears head to Oswego tomorrow evening for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Lakers.
