Whistles blew and, more often than not, another SUNY Geneseo player was put on the free throw line.

It was that kind of game for the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team.

With just over 12 minutes remaining in the second half, the Knights were already in the double bonus with eight fouls called against the Bears. Only two were called on the Knights.

By games' end, the Knights took 24 more free throws than the Bears.

Combined with some timely buckets down the stretch by Dana Cohan, Shannon McGinnis, and Katie Peterson, Geneseo came away with a 65-51 SUNYAC victory over Potsdam.

Geneseo (7-2 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC) made 23-of-32 from the line while Potsdam went 4-of-8.

Cohan, who entered as one of SUNYAC's sharpest shooters, made 5-of-8 shots including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc to finish with a game-high 16 points. Peterson had 13 points while McGinnis added nine points, 13 rebounds and three steals.

Potsdam (3-8 overall, 1-3 SUNYAC) trailed by eight points at halftime with some cold shooting (10 for 37 including just 2 of 12 from downtown), but begin to catch some rhythm in their shooting after the break.

Junior guard Colleen McNamara (Guelph, Ontario / Our Lady of Lourdes) scored all 10 of her season-high points in the second half on 5-of-7 shooting. At one point, McNamara caught fire and scored five consecutive baskets for the Bears on three driving layups and two jumpers.

McNamara' s previous season-high was five points on three occasions at Utica College on Nov. 16, versus Clarkson University on Dec. 3 and versus William Smith on Dec. 21.

Junior guard/forward Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y. / Williamsville East) patrolled the paint to record a season-high four blocks. Weigel now stands tied for fourth in the conference with SUNY Plattsburgh's Kathleen Payne in blocked shots with 15 apiece. She also added 10 points, a team-high eight rebounds and a steal.

Senior forward Jessica Kouzan (Webster, N.Y. / Webster-Schroeder) had 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Senior Chenice Russell (Moira, N.Y. / Brushton/ Moira) had nine points while junior guard Carli Reynolds (Indian Lake, N.Y. / Indian Lake) chipped in with seven points.

Potsdam led 9-8 in the early goings of the first half before Geneseo went on a key 10-0 run on six free throws, a layup by Allison McKenna and a jumper from McGinnis.

Potsdam will now take to the road to play at Oneonta State on Friday at 6 p.m. in a SUNYAC clash.
