BROCKPORT, N.Y.- SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams split at College at Brockport Saturday afternoon. The Bears men swam to a victory of 165-126 over the Golden Eagles as the Potsdam women dropped the meet to Brockport 175-115.
Captain Dan Costa (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport), fellow captain Tyler Zapisek (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee), junior Chris Carlini (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) and sophomore Ricky Blackburn (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) teamed up to take the win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:42.41. Costa followed up the win with two more solo victories in the 100 backstroke (55.78) and the 200 backstroke (2:06.19).
Zapisek also shined in the pool today with three solo wins of his own in the 50 free (22.18), 100 free (50.17) and the 500 free with a time of 5:24.23. Sophomore Chris Halsey (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) touched the wall first in the 1000 free with a time of 11:21.70 and Carlini took home a victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.91). Junior Delvyne Santiago (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) won the 200 breaststroke (2:34.23) as freshman Austin Wheeler (Perry, N.Y./Perry), freshman Jacob Van De Valk (Genoa, N.Y./Southern Cayuga), Blackburn and Costa closed out the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:24.91.
Sophomore Kristin Canjura (Wilton, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) led the women with two wins in the 1000 free (11:33.86) and the 500 free with a time of 5:40.70. Captain Victoria Blakeslee (Gloversville, N.Y./Gloversville) won the 200 IM with a time of 2:27.94 then teamed up with sophomore Jennifer Yeager (Greene, N.Y./Greene), freshman Abby Adams (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) and sophomore Kira Wood (Hopewell, N.Y./John Jay) to finish first in the 400 free relay with a time of 4:11.93.
Potsdam will be back at Maxcy Hall to host the North Country Invitational Friday starting at 4 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
