POTSDAM – Potsdam native and Clarkson senior Will Coleman was named Liberty League Co-Pitcher of the Year after posting a 1.52 earned-run average this season, a league best among starting pitchers.
He finished the year with a 2-4 record in 47.1 innings, where he fanned 59 batters and held opponents to a .227 batting average.
Coleman had six complete games in six starts for the Golden Knights and he was among the league’s top five pitchers in strikeouts.
Coleman, who became the third pitcher to gain Pitcher of the Year honors for the Knights, also was picked as a Liberty League First-Team All-Star.
Though Coleman won only two games in his senior season, he proved to be one of the most dominant pitchers in the conference with his 1.52 earned-run average, which was nearly a full run lower than any other starting pitcher in the Liberty League. That also ranks 23rd in the nation.
He struck out 59 hitters in 47.1 innings while walking just seven and giving up only 39 hits, allowing him to rank 14th nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (8.43), 33rd in strikeouts per nine innings (11.22), and tied 31st with 0.97 walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP).
He completed all six of his starts, tying for sixth nationally, and notched a pair of saves. Overall, Coleman allowed a .227 batting average-against while hitters slugged just .308 and reached base at a .273 clip.
