CLIFTON -- The SUNY Potsdam golf team opened its 2013 campaign with a fifth place finish at the Utica Fall Invitational.
The Bears posted a score of 311, 17 strokes shy of champion Scranton University’s 294. Senior Harrison Davenport (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) led Potsdam, tying for eighth over all with a score of 76.
Just seven strokes separated all five of the Bears’ finishes. Sophomores Conor Talty (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) tied for 11th with a round of 77, while sophomore John Hickey (Au Sable Forks, N.Y./Au Sable Valley) tied for 14th with a 78.
Newcomers Kevin Doherty and Daniel Kurtz shot an 80 and 83 to round out the team.
Potsdam is back in action on Tuesday when the squad hosts the Bears Fall Invitational at the Potsdam Country Club.
