POTSDAM – The SUNY Potsdam swimming & diving teams were defeated Saturday against Oswego in a dual meet at Maxcy Hall Pool.
The women’s team suffered a 148-94 setback, while the men’s team fell 123.5-107.5.
Entering the day, each team had yet to lose a dual meet during the 2010-11 season, and had finished second as hosts of the North Country Invitational on Nov. 19-20 in Potsdam.
Sophomore Alexander Taylor (Port Ewen, N.Y.) won a team-high three events for the men, taking the 1000-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Shane Shaffer (Clayton, N.Y.) and freshman Dylan Woythal (Duanesburg, N.Y.) were also multiple-event winners for the Bears.
Shaffer won the 1- and 3-meter diving events, while Woythal was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly event and as part of the 200-yard medley relay team.
For the women, junior Brittany Berrus (Lowville, N.Y.) led the way with triumphs in the 200- and 100-yard freestyle events. Junior Hollie Heimer (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore Liz Ringer (Queensbury, N.Y.) won one individual event apiece for Potsdam.
The Bears return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 21, at home against cross-town rival Clarkson. The dual meet at Maxcy Hall Pool is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
