FC Freeze Under-12 Girls defeated Indian River United Soccer Club 6-0 on Monday, June 15.

In nine minutes in the game, Freeze scored five times. Club manager Heather Cowen-Wilson reports that Hannah Butler (Canton) shined for the Freeze with a hat trick. She started out strong by dribbling past three Indian River players and blasting a low shot in the left corner of the net from just outside the 18-yard mark. Olivia Mace (Canton), fresh off a hat trick at Saturday’s game, dribbled from midfield and shot from outside the 18-yard mark low in the right side of the net. Butler then made a crossing pass to Katie Cowen (Potsdam); Cowen two-touched it and scored with a low left-sided shot. Less than two minutes later Butler dribbled by one defender and pushed the ball past the goalie's outstretched arms. And one minute later Butler was set up well outside the 18 yard box when she blasted a top shelf ball between the pipes.

In the first half Freeze goalie Kyla Phelan (Brushton) had string backfield support and didn’t need to make any saves. Quinn Woodward (Parishville), Natalie Cowen (Potsdam), Teaghan Phelan (Brushton), and Madelyn Dinneen (Norwood) comprised the impenetrable defense.

In the second half of play Mace made a long centering pass from the left sideline to Cowen who one-touched it into the right corner of the net. Jane Moosbugger (Potsdam), Julia Rishe (Ogdensburg) and Emily Jordan (Lisbon) all took shots on goal in the second half. N. Cowen was in the crease in the second half and contributed to the shutout.

On June 11, the U12 girls lost a tough game 3-2 to first place Upstate United SC Quack Pack. The game was scoreless at halftime, as FC Freeze players Hannah Butler, Canton, Natalie Cowen, Potsdam, Katie Cowen, Potsdam, and Emily Jordan, Lisbon all took strong shots on goals. Kyla Phelan, Brushton, made three saves for the Freeze.

In the second half the Quack Pack scored seven minutes in. They scored again five 5 minutes later. Then at 16:05 Olivia Mace, Canton, made a hard shot on goal from the right side of the field. The goalie deflected Mace’s shot and Katie Cowen pounced on it with a left-footed shot for the score.

Three minutes later Mace tied the game. She received the ball just past midfield and crushed the ball driving it into the top right corner of the net. With three minutes left in the game the Quack Pack slipped a slow dribbler into the left side of the FC Freeze net to win the game.

On Saturday June 13, the Freeze U12G hosted Watertown FC on winning the game 7-2.

They started out strong with solid passing and five minutes into the contest Emily Jordan passed to Hannah Butler who scored by firing the ball into the left side of the net.

At the 10-minute mark Olivia Mace connected with Katie Cowen who one-touched it into the left corner of the net for the score.

Four minutes later Mace intercepted a goal kick and scored. Cowen had three more shots on goal and Butler one before Watertown got on the boards when they converted a corner kick.

Freeze then turned on their offensive scoring machine. Mace made an unassisted goal with a well-placed low shot in the left corner of the net.

At halftime the score was 4-1.

2:30 into the second half of play Cowen opened up FC Freeze scoring, dribbling past three defenders and rifled a low shot into the left corner. A few minutes later Watertown's goalie misplayed a ball to her sweeper; Cowen attacked it and shot into the middle of the goal. This was Cowen’s third of the game, a hat trick.

At 13:08 Butler threaded a ball to Mace who scored with another low left corner shot. With nine minutes remaining Watertown scored their second and last goal with a hard shot deflected off Freeze goalie Kyla Phelan.

The Freeze defense of Natalie Cowen, Teaghan Phelan, Madelyn Dinneen, as well as Butler played tough defense. Kyla Phelan chalked up three saves in the crease for Freeze.

FC Freeze plays their sister team, FC Freeze-Northern Lights (Brockville), Thursday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. at SLU J-lot field.
