St. Lawrence University juniors Alanna Piroli and Margie Bailey each scored three goals, leading the women's lacrosse team to a 16-13 victory in the Saints' 2011 Liberty League regular season finale on Saturday in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The Saints finish the conference season with a 4-4 record, but have been eliminated from post-season play thanks to a win by Rensselaer on Saturday.  The Scarlet and Brown, now 6-9 overall, will compete in their final contest of the season next weekend at St. John Fisher.  Meanwhile, Vassar falls to 6-7 (1-5) after the loss despite six goals from Sarah Warner.

St. Lawrence closed with a 29-21 advantage in shots and an impressive 34-23 mark in ground balls.  However, it was Vassar that jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the first half, as the Brewers had a three-goal and four-goal run to go up by five midway through the frame.  St. Lawrence would rebound, though, and rattle off seven unanswered goals to end the first half and take a 9-7 lead into intermission.

With her team down by five, Bailey started the rally with her 12th of the season before junior Paige Powell and sophomore Brigid Hurley pulled St. Lawrence within two at 7-5.  Junior Kendall Harty, sophomore Stephanie O'Rourke, Hurley and sophomore Johanna Kelley closed out the first half scoring for a two-goal Saint lead, 9-7.

The Saints continued to pour on the offense in the second half, scoring six of the first eight goals to take a 15-9 lead.  Piroli scored three of those goals including a player-up goal, while Powell and Bailey (2) also helped extend the lead to six with 14:08 to play.

Vassar tried to regain the momentum behind three consecutive goals in a span of 1:50, including two from Warner, to pull to within three at 15-12.  However, senior Kim Morse put the game away with her 25th goal of the season with 5:05 remaining to push the lead back to four at 16-12.  Maura McCarthy capped the game scoring for Vassar to bring the game to its final score of 16-12.

Nicole Engelhardt made four saves for Vassar and suffered the loss after giving up 13 goals.  She was replaced by Heather Kesselman, who chipped in two saves.  St. Lawrence senior goalie Anna Marchand earned the win after making three stops.
