Eddie Pavlini and Zach Risteau scored their first collegiate goals for the St. Lawrence men's hockey team on Friday night in a back-and-forth battle between the Saints and the Rensselaer Engineers in ECAC Hockey action at Appleton Arena. RPI prevailed 6-5 to pick up a pair of conference points.

Michael Ederer, Bo Hanson, Jake Stevens and Andrew McIntyre finished with multi-point games for St. Lawrence. Patrick Polino led RPI with a pair of goals, while Jacob Hayhurst recorded a pair of assists.

Risteau scored the first goal of the game for the Saints, tying things up at 1-1 as the teams traded goals within the first three minutes. Pavlini's goal was the fourth of the game for the Saints and opened the scoring in the third period.

Just 11 seconds after Pavlini's tally, Jake Marrello converted on a breakaway for the Engineers for the game winning goal at 7:58 of the final frame.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 3-15-1 on the season with a 1-5-1 record against conference opponents, while RPI improves to 6-14-0 and 4-6-0 in ECAC Hockey contests.

TJ Samec put RPI on the board at 1:51 after the puck caromed off the end boards and deflected in off starter Emil Zetterquist's glove to put the Engineers in front 1-0.

Just over 30 seconds later, Minnesota natives Cade Gleekel and Risteau connected for a backdoor redirect off a rush with Bo Hanson also assisting on the play.

RPI carried a 2-1 lead into the first intermission behind Kyle Hallbauer's tally at 12:31.

Just 24 seconds into the second period, Polino put RPI in front 3-1 with his first of two on the night prompting an early exit for Zetterquist, as he was replaced by senior Arthur Brey in between the pipes.

The Saints pulled within one at 5:29 with a blast from the slot by Jake Stevens, as he scored his first since returning from injury with Hanson and Ryan Garvey picking up the assists.

Senior Michael Ederer tied the game at 3-3 with a power play tally at 11:17, as the Saints converted on their only man-up opportunity of Friday's game.

The Lancaster, New York native finished off a tic-tac-toe play with McIntyre and Stevens on the far post before RPI's Linden Marshall was able to push across the crease.

The Engineers scored two straight of their own, however, with Polino's second of the game at the 13:16 mark of the second, followed by a tally by Brady Wiffen at 18:57 to take a 5-3 lead into the final frame.

Pavlini once again pulled the Saints within a goal with his first collegiate tally, as he read an attempted clear off the half wall by RPI and stepped up for a wrister from the slot that beat Marshall high blocker into the top left corner for a 5-4 game.

But off the ensuing faceoff, RPI captain Tommy Grant hit Marrello with a stretch pass for a breakaway and a five-hole finish on Brey for RPI's sixth and final goal.

McIntyre's third of the season at 11:01 of the third period push the game to the final 6-5 margin, as he pushed a loose puck under a sprawling Marshall after he made the initial stop on a blast by Alftberg.

RPI finished with a slight 33-30 edge in shots and was 0-2 on the power play in the win.

Zetterquist finished with 12 saves in just over 20 minutes for the Saints, while Brey made 15 stops in 37:04 and took the loss. Marshall stopped 25 for RPI.

The Saints will return to Appleton Arena to host No. 15 Union on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
