Johnson, VT – Senior Lukas Patrizio and freshman Kelley Hull finished as runners-up in their respective races as the Clarkson University Cross Country team scored a pair of victories at the Badger Cross Country Run Invitational.
The women placed first among 11 teams with 20 points, finishing ahead of Maine-Farmington (73), Southern Vermont (86), Johnson State (130), SUNY Canton (135), SUNY Polytechnic (157), Green Mountain College (173), Thomas College (201), Maine-Presque Isle (inc.), New England College (inc.) and Paul Smiths (inc.). The men were nearly as dominant with 28 points, ahead of Maine-Farmington (90), SUNY Polytechnic (91), Thomas College (106), Southern Vermont (107), Maine-Presque Isle (192), SUNY Canton (196), Paul Smiths (198), New England College (259), Johnson State (276), and Green Mountain College (311).
Kelley Hull took second among 80 runners with a time of 20 minutes, 49.2 seconds over the 5,000-meter course, an average of a 6:43 mile. Sophomore Emilee Carpenter was the next Clarkson runner to cross the finish line, coming in fifth in 212:21.3, starting a rush of Golden Knights as the Green and Gold closed out the top 10. Sophomore Alison Davis placed sixth in 21:22.0 and freshman Rachael Jones was less than a second behind Davis in 21:22.7. Sophomore Sarah Duclos finished a second later in 21:23.7 took eighth, while freshman Ellen Jaworski placed ninth in 22:01.6 and sophomore Hannah Phillips crossed a tenth of a second later for 10th-place in 22:01.7.
On the men's side, Lukas Patrizio was second out of 107 competitors with a time of 27:24.1, a 5:31-mile average over the 8,000-meter event. Four more runners placed inside the top 10, and two others were in the top 15. Junior AJ Beers came in fourth in 27:43.3 and Alex DeWitt finished fifth 10 seconds later in 27:53.3. Junior Kris Lizins was the next runner to help the Knights' cause by taking eighth in 28:09.3 and sophomore Austin Smith rounded out the Clarkson scoring by finishing ninth in 28:23.4. Senior Stephen Paddock followed up with an 11th-place showing with a time of 28:42.6 and junior Jacob Erdman placed 15th in 28:35.8.
