Senior guard Terry Parham scored 20 points and dished out seven assists to lead the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 76-69 victory over Liberty League opponent Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Saturday evening in Troy, NY.
St. Lawrence, which led 31-24 at halftime, improves to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the league. Meanwhile, RPI drops to 4-6 (1-1).
The Engineers made a 16-7 run in the opening minutes of the second half to tie the score at 40-40 with 15:22 left. A lay-up by sophomore Brandon Rivera and consecutive 3-pointers from Miller sparked the visitors for a 14-2 run over a three minute span to bring the score to 54-42 with 11:56 left to play.
St. Lawrence's lead reached as many as 16 points when Parham made a jumper to bring the score to 72-56 at 3:40. Though the home team rallied on a 14-4 run in the final minutes, the Saints had put the game out of reach and closed out the win to complete the sweep of the opening weekend of league competition.
The Saints will host the Golden Knights of Clarkson on Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
