Elmira, NY – The SUNY Canton baseball team split a doubleheader at host Elmira College earning a 1-0 win in the nightcap after dropping the opener 2-1 at Dunn Field on Saturday in Elmira.

The Roos now sit at 6-22 overall and 2-11 in conference play, while the Soaring Eagles move to 11-11 overall and 7-6 within Empire 8 play.

Game 1

Elmira jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as one run scored unearned and Dylan Bellinger drove in a run on a double to left field. The Roos got one back in the third on an RBI groundout from Wilson Matos to score Francesco Palumbo but were unable to bring the tying run across in a pitcher's duel.

Jake Vierno took the loss despite giving up just one earned run over six innings with four strike outs. Connor Bawiec earned his fourth win of the season surrendering no earned runs on five hits over seven innings with seven strike outs.

Game 2

The Roos jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Travis Schindler scored an unearned run on a Matos fielder's choice and that proved to be the difference in the second pitcher's duel on the day. Tom Brusca earned the no-decision giving up just three hits with two strike outs over the first three innings. Austin Lamay earned his second win of the season with five innings of one hit ball in relief, while Dan Coant earned his first save on the campaign with one inning of relief work allowing one walk with a strike out.

These two teams will play a single nine-inning game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
