Canton, NY – Following a scrum on the draw in which no one seemed able to get control of the ball, sophomore Jaid Baytos corralled the ball despite a stick check and sprinted past the remaining defenders to score less than 30 seconds into overtime as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team earned a 10-9 Liberty League victory over St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 8-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Liberty League with the win, while St. Lawrence dropped to 3-5 and 0-1.

In each half, St. Lawrence scored the first three goals and appeared to have things in hand. Three scores in the first six minutes and a denial of Clarkson for the first 13 minutes saw St. Lawrence take a 3-0 lead close to the midway point of the first. The Saints still had a 5-2 advantage with less than 10 minutes to go, but Jaid Baytos tallied twice around an Ashley Flick goal to tie things up at the half.

Again, the Saints started the second half with three scores and kept the Knights off the board for the first 10 minutes. However, the Knights rattled off four straight goals and took their first lead on a Katie Sergeant free-position shot with 7:15 remaining. Julia Mitiguy responded with a free-position shot of her own about five minutes later, tying the game at 9-9 with 2:39 to go. After losing the following draw, it took Clarkson some time to clear the ball out of their defensive end, but Amanda Ellman sprinted 40-plus yards down the field to give the Knights the final chance. Over the last two minutes or so, though, Clarkson couldn't muster a shot and the game went to overtime.

On the opening draw of the extra session, it appeared as if St. Lawrence had the pickup, but no one on the Saints ever gained possession. With a dozen players circling the ball, it scooted over to Baytos who was surrounded by three St. Lawrence defenders. The ball was still in the air, but Baitos was able to gain control in stride and out ran the last two St. Lawrence defenders for an angled shot against the Saints goalkeeper. Baytos tossed it over her right shoulder and into the net from about five yards out to give Clarkson the win.

Baytos finished with six points on five goals and an assist, adding in two groundballs and a draw. Kate Dillon scored twice, while Abby Collins, Ashley Flick and Katie Sergeant each scored once. Amanda Ellman, Stephanie Scaia and Abby Collins each added three groundballs, with Scaia also contributing three draws and two caused turnovers. Samantha Gladd made seven saves in the win.

For St. Lawrence, Julia Mitiguy and Kayla Schmalz each scored twice, with the latter also causing two turnovers and scooping up three groundballs. Emma Jewett also scored two points with a goal and an assist. Cricket Wemyss and Olga Lukas combined for five saves for the Saints.
