ONEONTA, N.Y.—SUNY Oneonta (9-2-1, 5-0 SUNYAC) scored two second half goals to pull away from the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (7-4-1, 1-2-1) for a 3-0 win on Friday afternoon. Cory Santangelo scored twice for the Red Dragons.
Oneonta scored the eventual game-winner in the 10th minute. Matthew Matteo sent a cross into the box and Santangelo headed it home for a 1-0 lead. The Red Dragons stayed on the attack and stifled the Bears offense. However, the score remained unchanged at the break.
In the 60th minute, Greg Silvestro drove a corner kick into the box and Alex Winiarski doubled the Oneonta advantage with another header. Nearly 20 minutes later, Santangelo put the game away with his second of the contest. He moved around a defender and fired a blast from the top of the box.
Bears senior goalie Jesse Kohler (Middletown, N.Y./Tompkins-Cortland C.C.) finished with three saves. Vincent Pellegrino was untested and earned the win for Oneonta.
Potsdam heads to New Paltz tomorrow afternoon for a 1 p.m. battle with the Hawks.
