O'Neill wins Liberty League Individual Championship, is women's golf Player of the Year

St. Lawrence University rookie Claire O'Neill became the first Liberty League Women's Golf individual champion and earned Liberty League Player of the Year honors as she shot round of 74 and 84 for a three-shot win in the Liberty League portion of the competition at the Vassar Invitational on Sunday.

The Saints finished fourth as a team in the league competition, which was won by NYU with a 659 total. Vassar was second at 676 with Wellesley third at 724 and the Saints fourth at 733. Mount Holyoke, William Smith and Union completed the field in the Liberty League portion of the event.

O'Neill shot a two-over par 74 in the first round of the tournament at the Dutchess Golf and Country Club, taking a five-shot lead into the second round for the individual title. She shot 84 on Sunday to capture the title. Her 74 ties for second best single round in program history.

Saint senior Aimee Caligiore finished fourth with back to back rounds of 82 for a 164 total while Kelly Hale tied for 15th with rounds of 89 and 91 for a 180 total and Gwen Maurice completed the Saint scoring with a two-day total of 231, tied for 31st.

O'Neill finished fifth overall in the tournament and the Saints were eighth as a team as Williams finished first, Middlebury second, NYU third and Amherst fourth in the 11-team field.
