O'Neil, Zachman lead Saints women's golf to Cortland win

St. Lawrence University senior Claire O'Neil tied for third as an individual as the Saint women's golf team placed all four of its scorers in the top ten to win the Martin/Wallace Women's Golf Invitational at Cortland by three strokes on Sunday.

The Saints finished with a two round total of 647 to edge host Cortland by three strokes in the eight team field.

O'Neil combined rounds of 80 and 75 for a 155 total, two strokes behind medalist Carly Peters of Cortland, who shot 80-73-153. O'Neil's 75 was the third best score in the tournament.

First Year Olivia Zachman tied for sixth for her best collegiate finish, carding her first collegiate sub-80 round with a 79 in round one to go with an 85 for a 164 total. Lexie Haehl shot 84-80 to match Zachman while Laura Gay completed the Saint scoring with rounds of 80 and 87 for a 167 total and a tie for ninth overall.

Hailey Wilson shot back to back rounds of 84 and was the fourth Saint counter on Sunday with a 168 total while Natalie Squillace played as an individual and shot 86-90-176 to finish tied for 17th.

The Saints will play at Middlebury Oct. 3-4.
