Seniors Khifer O'Connor and Zane Fish each had three hits including a home run and drove in three runs each as St. Lawrence University's baseball team beat SUNY Canton for the second straight day in a non-league baseball game on Tuesday.
The Saints, playing as the visiting team on their home field, improved to 16-12 as they scored three runs in the top of the fifth and added two more in the top of the seventh to snap a 4-4 tie en route the victory.
Jake Farrell earned the win for the Saints in relief of Ben Jenkins for the Saints while Frank Grady pitched two innings of scoreless relief. Starter Travis Bigelow took the loss for the Roos, now 15-17, while Jesse Barton went four for five to account for a third of Canton's 12 hits in the game.
Consecutive singles by Bryan Palermo, Mark Syron and O'Connor gave the Saints a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Roos tied it in the bottom of the third on an error and Braden Giffin's single to center.
The Saints went up 3-1 in the top of the fourth on a run-scoring triple by Fish and Adam Reichel's double, but Canton came right back to tie with two in the bottom of the inning on a two run single by Nick Belile.
O'Connor's two run homer in the top of the fifth put the Saints in front for good and Chris Fernandez singled home another run to make it 6-3. Kevin Hill's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth cut the lead to 6-4, but Fish hit a two run homer in the top of the seventh to conclude the scoring.
The Saints are scheduled to host Ithaca in a single game Wednesday afternoon and have a big Liberty League series against RPI at home Saturday and Sunday.
