Nuffer wins 10K, Saints 2nd in 4x800 at NYSCTC Championship

McKayla Nuffer won the 10,000 meter championship and the 4x800 relay team finished second to highlight day one of competition for the St. Lawrence University women's track and field team in the 2012 New York State Collegiate Track Conference Outdoor Championships at the University of Rochester on Friday.

Nuffer ran 39:03 and led from start to finish in the 24-lap 10,000 meter race, winning by almost a minute over Molly Quinn of Ithaca, who was second in 40:01. The 10,000 and the 4x800 relay were the only track finals of Friday's first day of competition which also included qualifying heats in the sprints.

The 4x800 team of Megan Hulton, Ariel Beccia, Staci Czaja and Jenna Hulton ran 9:33.31 with a strong anchor leg by Jenna Hulton moving the Saints up to the runner-up spot.

In field event finals on Friday, Carly Stine finished seventh in the long jump with a 5.01 meter jump and Tori Bean also scored for the Saints with a 4.96 meter jump for eighth. Samantha Weber finished sixth in the javelin with a 31.48 meter throw and Taylor Washington finished tied for fifth in the pole vault, clearing 3.10 meters.

Hannah Kinsey advanced to Saturday finals in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, qualifying with a time of 12.93 in the 100 and 26.42 in the 200.
