POTSDAM, N.Y.—Ninth-ranked SUNY Geneseo (10-1, 2-1 SUNYAC) used a big first half to down the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (4-7, 0-3 SUNYAC) 19-9 on Saturday afternoon. Bears sophomore attack Bri McClusky (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) finished with three goals and an assist and junior attack Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) chipped in two goals and two assists.

The Blue Knights started quickly with three straight goals to open the contest in the first 3:08. Just 44 seconds later Weigel got Potsdam on the board with an assist from junior midfielder Margaret Wall (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas). Less than 30 seconds later, the duo switched roles as Wall scored on a feed from Weigel to make it a 3-2 contest at the 25:38 mark. Geneseo answered with two more before McClusky netted an unassisted tally at 20:10. The Blue Knights closed the half with a 6-2 run for an 11-5 advantage at the break. Bears freshman defender Hannah Keggins (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) scored at 10:28 with an assist from Wall and McClusky struck again at 2:32 with a helper from senior attack Michelle Varney (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams).

The break at halftime didn't cool off the Blue Knight offense. Geneseo scored four goals in the first five minutes of the final period to build a 15-5 lead. At 21:41, Weigel scored a man-down goal and eight minutes later junior midfielder Emily Petit (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) made it 15-7. Again the Blue Knights answered with a 3-0 stretch over the next nine minutes to put the game out of reach. Potsdam sandwiched two goals around a final Geneseo tally in the last three minutes. Freshman attack Mariah Pierce (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) scored on a pass from McClusky at 2:49 and McClusky completed the hat trick on Weigel's second assist with 25 seconds on the clock.

In goal, senior captain Jen Chmiel was tagged with the loss after making three saves and allowing 14 goals in the first 32:47. Freshman Devan Olschewske (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) stopped four shots and allowed five goals in the final 27:13. Blue Knight junior goalie Laura Passamonte (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) made eight saves to earn her 10th win of the season.

Geneseo senior midfielder Emily Haggerty (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) posted a game-high seven points on six goals and an assist. Senior attack Caroline Buoncore (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) finished with two goals and two assists, while senior attack Meredith Weber (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) contributed three more markers.

The Bears look to bounce back on Tuesday when they host Oswego State at 4 p.m.
